My Story
I was, surprisingly, first intrigued by the human body’s mechanics in a yoga class. The teacher showed us a sketch of a skeleton in a back bend. I chiefly remember thinking how amazing it is, that all the different joints and muscles work together, in harmony, to achieve something truly beautiful. My next thought was: “What if everything doesn’t work together, what happens then?”.
Musculoskeletal pathology notably fascinated me from my very first biomechanics lecture. Although this may be true, it further terrified me during clinical examinations as a student and eventually brought me the greatest job satisfaction, imaginable. I completed my B.Sc. Physiotherapy (Honours) degree in 2012 at the University of the Free state, and I instantly realized that you really only know the tip of the iceberg, after studying for four years.
In time this compelled me to study further, and so I additionally completed a post graduate course in Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) in 2016. I’ve been practicing for more than 8 years in various settings, and expanded my skills accordingly. I was first introduced to vestibular rehabilitation in the clinic I worked at in Ireland. Treating vertigo and dizziness is truly satisfying, because the symptoms have such a dramatic impact.
Coupled with being a physiotherapist, yoga is still a big part of my life. I am a qualified 500 hour instructor and teach a few weekly classes in Pretoria East.
